The Matemwe retreat is a new facility located on an amazing stretch of private land, just north of the Matemwe’s main lodge and right opposite the Mnemba atoll. The Matemwe retreat consists of 3 fabulous separate villas each with a ground floor, veranda, private cocktail bar, air conditioned bedroom, bathroom with double basins and a large romantic bathtub overlooking the Indian ocean.
Each villa has a plunge pool on the roof terrace (60m2) complete with sun and shade decks topped up with a beach overlooking the villa.
The Matemwe retreat endeavours to empower the local community within its locale. The lodge is built by the local craftsmen, from locally available materials where need be. The furniture locally assembled and the soft furnishings produced by the local Zanzibari women with the mat being done by the blind association in stone town. The hot water is supplied via a solar water heating system.
